David Swallow, Jr. is a member of Crazy Horse’s Band of Oglala Lakota. He is a Wicasa Wakan (holy man), intercessor of the Medicine Wheel Sun Dance , and the Head Man of Porcupine, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation where he lives. David is also a leader in the original Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires), traditional leadership of the Lakota Oyate. Educated by his grandparents and other elders in Lakota history and culture and spiritual, ceremonial, ecological, and knowledge.

David also participated in major acts of resistance, including the 1973 Wounded Knee Occupation and the Water Protectors Defensive Action at Standing Rock in 2016. Now an elder, David is truly a link to the past. He speaks to audiences across the USA and around the world about Lakota lands, spiritual ceremonies, history, culture, and contemporary issues.
